Completed in 2009, Diamond Hill Crematorium provides a serene, peaceful and solemn environment for families and friends of the deceased to farewell their loved ones. The architect aimed to integrate the structure with its surrounding natural environment, to turn the crematorium into a ship setting sail, metaphorically signifying our deceased loved ones embarking on a journey to another world.
The crematorium was built along the landscape of the hill with a south-facing orientation. The architect created two separate zones segmented by their functions. The spot where public alight and aboard vehicles, and where electrical and mechanical facilities are placed, is located on the ground floor. The hall and lotus pond are situated at the platform with a lawn. The route for the ceremony to bid farewell to the deceased is designed to allow soul-searching and paying respect. The courtyard is located on the platform to create a quiet space that comforts families and friends in grief.
